December Milk Price Futures Start to Look Concerning

Thursday’s spot dairy auction was a mixed bag. Block cheese gained a quarter of a penny to $2.0550/lb. Barrel cheese was up 1.50 cents to $2.2150. Whey increased 3.25 cents to $0.4425. Butter held still at $3.1850. Nonfat Dry Milk fell 2.50 cents to $1.50/lb.

 Despite higher spot cheese prices, class III milk futures moved lower and may be potentially concerned after holiday demand season comes to an end. November milk gave up 12 cents to $21.14/cwt. December milk fell 31 cents to $20.41/cwt. Class IV futures were 31-47 lower in November and December.

 

Corn trended higher after trading lower throughout the course of Thursday’s day trading session. December corn rose 4.75 cents to $6.9775/bu. November soybeans dropped ¼ of a to $13.9575/bu. December soybean meal decreased $3.30 to $411.00/ton.

Livestock futures drifted lower. December live cattle declined 52 cents to $147.92/cwt. November feeder cattle eased 57 cents to $176.10/cwt. December lean hogs were down 10 cents to $80.60/cwt. November crude oil tacked on $1.92 to $89.19/barrel after three days of lower prices.
